Healing Isn’t Linear—And That’s Okay

on

Let’s be real: healing is messy. It’s frustrating. It’s that rollercoaster you didn’t sign up for but somehow ended up strapped into. One day, you’re convinced you’ve made it—you feel lighter, your body hurts less, your mind is clearer. Then, out of nowhere, a bad pain day hits, an old trauma resurfaces, or your soul feels completely drained again. Suddenly, you’re questioning everything. Was I ever really healing at all?

Yes, you were. And you still are.

The Lie of Linear Progress

We’re conditioned to think of healing as a straight path. Society loves a good before-and-after story, where someone “overcomes” chronic pain, trauma, or spiritual exhaustion and never looks back. But in reality? Healing is like a scribbled mess of circles, detours, and unexpected roadblocks.

There will be days when you feel unstoppable—when your body moves with ease, your mind is quiet, and your spirit feels connected. Then there will be days when the weight of everything crashes down again. That doesn’t mean you’re back at square one. It just means you’re human.

Chronic Pain: The Fluctuations Are Normal

If you live with chronic pain, you know that progress isn’t measured in a straight line. Some days, you might feel like you’ve finally found the right treatment, the right routine. Then suddenly, a flare-up reminds you that your body has its own timeline. It’s disheartening, but it doesn’t erase the progress you’ve made. It means you’re still in the process—and that’s okay.

Healing isn’t just about eliminating pain; it’s about learning to live with it in a way that doesn’t consume you. Some days, that means pushing forward. Other days, it means surrendering and letting your body rest. Both are valid.

Trauma: The Ghosts of the Past Don’t Disappear Overnight

Trauma healing is a layered process. You might think you’ve worked through something, only for an unexpected trigger to bring back emotions you thought were long gone. That doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means your mind and body are still integrating and processing.

Give yourself grace. Healing from trauma isn’t about erasing the past but learning how to live alongside it without letting it define you. Some days will be harder than others. That’s not regression—it’s just the nature of deep, real healing.

Spiritual Burnout: Rebuilding at Your Own Pace

Maybe you’ve been through a season of deep spiritual exhaustion—whether from religious trauma, over-giving, or simply losing your sense of connection. Healing your spirit isn’t about forcing yourself back into old beliefs or practices. It’s about allowing yourself space to rediscover what actually nourishes you.

Some days, that might mean feeling completely disconnected. Other days, you might feel a flicker of something sacred again. Trust that both are part of the process.

The Truth: Healing is a Cycle, Not a Straight Line

Here’s what I want you to remember:

  • A setback isn’t failure.
  • Feeling “better” one day and “worse” the next doesn’t mean you aren’t healing.
  • Progress is measured in small moments, not in a perfectly upward trajectory.

Give yourself permission to heal in your own way, at your own pace. Honor the good days. Be gentle on the hard ones. And most importantly, keep going.

You’re healing, even when it doesn’t feel like it. And that’s enough. 💛

Much love and many blessings,

Mrs. B
