A Guide for New Witches of All Paths
Welcome to the Path
Dear Beautiful Soul,
Welcome to your journey. Whether you’re drawn to the call of the moon, the whisper of herbs in the kitchen, the strength of the old Norse gods, or the gentle hum of the earth beneath your feet, this space is for you. This is a sacred digital journal, a guidebook, a digital companion for the new, the curious, the grey-walking, the green-thumbing, and the kitchen-stirring witches of today.
Here, we honor all paths—Pagan, Norse, eclectic, green, kitchen, grey, and more—with love, respect, and a fierce dedication to growth and community. This grimoire is yours to grow with. Let it evolve with you.
I will be slowly creating digital blog pages that will eventually be pieced together and added into a book for publishing but for now I will be adding in posts that you are free to print out and add to you our journal & or Grimoire.
Much love and many blessings,
Mrs. B
Let’s start Simple:
What is a Grimoire?
A grimoire (grim-WAHR) is more than just a spellbook—it’s your magical journal, your safe space, your personal record of thoughts, practices, spells, experiences, recipes, and lessons that shape your unique journey in the realm of magic. It can be handwritten, typed, painted, sketched, or even spoken aloud, capturing the essence of your magical evolution in whatever form resonates with you. Within its pages, you can explore your innermost beliefs, document your successes and failures, and reflect on the growth you experience along the way. Each entry serves not only as a repository of knowledge but also as a testament to your personal development and connection with the universe. Your grimoire evolves as you do, adapting to your changing practices, insights, and the wisdom you gain over time, becoming a cherished companion in your magical endeavors.
In your Grimoire, you may choose to record:
- Daily reflections or moon cycle insights can help improve self-awareness and cultivate a deeper understanding of one’s emotions and thoughts, while also guiding personal growth throughout the various phases of the moon, allowing for intentional planning and mindfulness.
- Rituals and spells that are often performed during various ceremonies or special occasions to invoke certain energies, intentions, or outcomes, may include a series of structured practices and chants, often accompanied by the use of specific tools and ingredients.
- Herbal recipes and correspondences: This includes various herbal recipes for teas, tinctures, and salves, exploring the correspondences associated with each herb, such as their magical properties, astrological associations, and traditional uses in folk medicine.
- Ancestral knowledge or deity work, which involves the exploration of ancient teachings and spiritual practices passed down through generations, can lead to profound personal insights and a deeper connection with one’s heritage. It often emphasizes the importance of honoring and understanding the traditions that shape our identities and belief systems.
- Tarot, bones, or rune readings – Divinations that provide insights into the past, present, and future, guiding individuals in their decision-making and self-reflection processes.
- Dreams, omens, and signs can offer profound insights into our subconscious thoughts and feelings, guiding us toward enlightenment and self-discovery in our waking lives.
There’s no one right way. Trust your intuition.
Core Values of the Unconventional Witch
🌀 Authenticity Over Aesthetics
Not every witch wears black and drinks tea by candlelight (but we love those who do). You are valid whether you use Dollar Store candles or hand-carved wands, as the true essence of magic is found in your intention and energy rather than the materials at hand. Embracing your unique journey, whether it involves glittery crystals or simple pebbles collected on a walk, is what truly nurtures your practice. The power of your craft is not defined by external appearances but by the authenticity you bring to your rituals and spells, showcasing that even the most humble tools can channel incredible energies and profound connections to the universe. Magic lives in intent, not the price tag; it’s about the heart behind every action, the sincerity of your beliefs, and the joy you find in your personal expression.
🌱 Respect for the Earth and All Beings
Green witches, kitchen witches, Norse heathens, animists—we are all guardians of the Earth. We prioritize the essence of living harmoniously with nature and seek to understand the intricate web of life that surrounds us. Honoring the Earth means acknowledging her spirits, her living creatures, and the natural cycles that govern existence. Our practices reflect this reverence, as we engage with the land, collect herbs with gratitude, and celebrate seasonal festivals that reconnect us with the rhythms of nature. Each action we take is imbued with a spirit of gratitude, recognizing the interdependence of all beings in this shared ecosystem.
💫 Magic is Both Science and Mystery
From herbal remedies to energy work, we embody the understanding that magic encompasses both the measurable and the mystical. The leaves we use for potions, the crystals we charge under the moonlight, and the rituals we perform are all grounded in a balance between empirical knowledge and spiritual insight. We embrace the idea that one does not cancel out the other; rather, they coexist beautifully. The study of plants, for example, reveals not only their biochemical properties but also the cultural stories and spiritual meanings associated with them. In this way, our journey in magic is enriched by both science and mystery, encouraging us to explore and discover the layers of knowledge hidden within our practices. Each moment spent in the exploration deepens our connection not only to our craft but to the universe at large.
🕯️ No Room for Gatekeeping or Hate
We welcome all races, genders, sexualities, abilities, and neurotypes. There is no “one way” to be a witch here. Every individual brings their unique energy and perspective to the practice, enriching our community. Our understanding of witchcraft is as diverse as the practitioners who embody it. Whether your path is rooted in traditional rituals, modern interpretations, or personal intuition, you belong here. Together, we create a supportive environment that celebrates differences and fosters growth, encouraging each other to explore and embrace our authentic selves without the fear of judgment or exclusion. Embrace your true nature; there is beauty in every form of expression.
Tools of the Trade (Beginner-Friendly)
You don’t need a fancy altar to get started. Here are a few simple items to begin working with:
| Tool | Purpose | Substitutes |
|---|---|---|
| Candle | Focus, element of fire, intention | Tea light, birthday candle |
| Bowl of water | Element of water, cleansing | Glass of tap water |
| Herb(s) | Healing, magic, intention | Kitchen herbs (thyme, rosemary, basil) |
| Journal | Your Grimoire | Any notebook, blog, or app |
| Crystal | Energy work | A special rock, seashell, or item with meaning |
| Spoon | Kitchen magic | Any utensil that stirs with intention |
Start simple. Magic flows from you, not the objects.
Your First Ritual – Ground & Connect
Note: If you are out of balance, your magic will be too, leading to unpredictable outcomes that can affect not only you but also those around you. Chaos Magic can be wonderful and transformative, offering limitless possibilities for creativity and exploration, but it can also be dangerous if mismanaged or approached without caution. It is essential to recognize the inherent risks involved, which is why I strongly suggest grounding yourself first before you jump in headfirst. By taking the time to center your energy and align your intentions, you can create a safer environment for your magical endeavors, allowing for a more profound and enriching experience as you navigate the complexities of this chaotic realm.
🌍 Simple Grounding Practice (Great for Any Tradition)
What you need:
- A quiet space
- A candle or natural light source
- A moment of stillness
Steps:
- Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply.
- Imagine roots growing from your feet or base of your spine, reaching deep into the Earth.
- With each inhale, draw in calm and stability. With each exhale, release anxiety and doubt.
- Light your candle (or imagine a soft flame). Say aloud or in your mind:“I am connected. I am safe. I am one with the Earth and the stars.”
- Give thanks. Snuff your candle. Record how you feel in your Grimoire.
