Embracing Self-Care

A Love Letter to the Days You Just… Can’t

Hey there, beautiful soul.

Let’s start with something that might sound radical in today’s hustle-harder, positive-vibes-only world:

It’s okay to have off days! No really. Not in a toxic positivity kind of way, but in the real, messy, pajama-all-day, too-tired-to-even-cry kind of way.

Some days are heavy. Some weeks feel like a lifetime. And for those of us living with chronic illness, chronic pain, or the quiet storm of chronic depression… sometimes “just getting through the day” is a whole victory. And if that’s you today, let me just say: I see you. You’re doing your best, and that is more than enough.

Tiny Acts of Self-Care That Actually Help

You don’t need a full-blown spa day or a 45-step morning routine. Sometimes, the smallest gestures can shift the energy of your day, just enough to breathe easier. Here are a few gentle nudges and low-effort ideas that might help when everything feels a little (or a lot) too much:

1. The 2-Minute Rule

If a task takes less than two minutes, try doing it now. Wiping off the bathroom sink. Throwing out the trash. Sending that one reply. You might not conquer the world, but sometimes these tiny wins give your brain a little happy buzz.

2. The Comfort Nest

Build a cozy corner. Blankets, a heating pad, a favorite pillow or stuffed animal (yes, even adults have them — no shame here), and soft lighting. Make your bed or couch into a sanctuary. Bonus points for fuzzy socks.

3. Low-Energy Wins

  • Listen to an audiobook or calming playlist (search “comfort audio” or “gentle stories”).
  • Open a window. Just a little fresh air can help you reset.
  • Sip something warm — tea, bone broth, lemon water… whatever feels like a hug in a mug.

4. Gentle Movement (if possible)

If your body allows, a few light stretches in bed, chair yoga, or even lying on the floor and wiggling like a cooked noodle (yes, that’s a real thing) can loosen up that tension.

5. The “Friend Text” Trick

Send a “Hey, just wanted to say hi” to someone safe and supportive. You don’t need to explain yourself. Just the connection — even a meme exchange — can make a huge difference.

6. Affirmations That Don’t Feel Fake

Skip the “I am a radiant beam of divine perfection” if that makes you roll your eyes. Try these instead:

  • “I’m doing the best I can right now.”
  • “My worth is not measured by my productivity.”
  • “It’s okay to need rest. It’s okay to ask for help.”

You Are Not Alone

Living with chronic pain, illness, or depression can feel really lonely sometimes. Like you’re shouting into a void or trying to keep it together while the world spins too fast around you. But please believe this: you are not broken, or lazy, or weak.

You are living a life that requires an immense amount of strength, just to exist within. And even on the days when you don’t feel strong — even then — you’re still worthy of love, care, and kindness. Especially from yourself.

I decided to touch base more on this topic here:

A Final Thought

So today, if all you managed was to read this while lying in bed with your hair a little wild and your to-do list gathering dust… you still showed up.

That’s enough.

That’s brave.

That’s love in action.

Take it easy, sweet soul. You are enough — exactly as you are.

Much love and many blessings,
Mrs. B
