There’s something comforting about the smell of coffee in the morning, the quiet loyalty of a dog curled at your feet, and the steady rhythm of the moon above. For many of us navigating the ups and downs of mental health, these small moments become lifelines—rituals that ground us, remind us we’re still here, and offer us sacred pause amidst the chaos.
I recently grabbed a shirt from @ownyourstigma that proudly says Coffee, Dogs, & Mental Health, and honestly? It feels like a banner for everything I stand for. As someone living with ADHD, OCD, PMDD, and navigating the complexities of chronic illness and neurodivergence, mental health is not just a talking point—it’s a cornerstone of my life and healing journey.

This shirt from @ownyourstigma says it all—and I’m so here for it. 💛 https://ownyourstigma.com/?ref=mhxctnko

🧠 Why We Need to Talk About Mental Health More—Not Less
Here’s the hard truth: our system in the U.S. doesn’t do enough for those of us who truly need support. Access to mental health care is limited, expensive, and often wrapped in stigma. Too many are left suffering in silence, afraid to speak up, afraid to seem “too much.”
Let me tell you this: You are never too much. [I say it a lot but it is so TRUE] You are never alone.
There is power in saying, “I’m not okay.” There is courage in asking for help. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, or simply carrying the weight of a world that moves too fast—you deserve care, compassion, and community.
And that’s part of why I created Unconventional Momma. To give space for the misfits, the feelers, the neurodivergent witches, the chronic pain warriors, and the healers who are still healing themselves. You belong here.
🌕 Enter Moon Magic: A Gentle Guide for Emotional Healing
Now let’s talk about the moon—because she’s one of my greatest teachers.
The moon reflects the emotional tides of our lives. She cycles through phases just as we do—ebbing, flowing, retreating, and returning. For those of us living with mental health challenges, working with lunar energy can be incredibly grounding and empowering.
Here’s how moon magic can support your mental health:
🌑 New Moon: Set Intentions, Embrace the Dark
This phase is perfect for rest, reflection, and planting seeds for emotional healing. Journal your intentions. Light a black or silver candle. Let yourself sit in the quiet and listen to your inner voice.
Mental Health Ritual: Write down one thing you want to release from your inner critic. Burn the paper safely or bury it in the soil.
🌓 First Quarter: Take Action
This is the “push forward” phase. If you’ve been feeling stuck or unmotivated, this is a time to gently challenge yourself. Set small, doable goals. Celebrate each step, no matter how small.
Mental Health Ritual: Speak affirmations aloud. “I am worthy of healing. I am enough. I am doing my best.”
🌕 Full Moon: Illumination & Release
Emotions tend to peak around the full moon. It’s a powerful time to acknowledge what’s come to the surface. Cry, dance, howl if you need to. Full moons give you permission to feel it all.
Mental Health Ritual: Take a cleansing bath with herbs like lavender, mugwort, or rose. Journal freely, no edits. Let your heart spill.
🌗 Last Quarter: Reflect & Recalibrate
This phase is a time to evaluate what’s working—and what’s draining you. It’s okay to pull back. It’s okay to rest again.
Mental Health Ritual: Burn cleansing incense or herbs. Speak your truth to the mirror: “I honor where I am. I trust where I’m going.”
💬 Final Thoughts from Mrs. B
Mental health isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey, and healing isn’t linear. Some days you’ll feel strong and steady; other days you’ll need extra rest, extra love, and maybe a little extra coffee.
That’s okay.
Coffee, dogs, mental health, and moon magic—these are some of the things that hold me together. They’re not just aesthetics or hashtags; they’re anchors.
So take a breath. Look up at the moon. Pour yourself something warm. And remember—you are magic, even on the messy days.
If you ever need someone to talk to, you’re always welcome in this space. Reach out. Connect. Be seen.
Much love and many blessings,
Mrs. B 🌙🖤
