Holistic & Legal: CBD

Alright, Alright, Alright! Let’s talk about something that I have been using on an off for a couple of years now but really have not into serious usage until recently, CBD. Does CBD get you high? What are the actual benefits? What is CBD? Is CBD the same as Weed? What is Delta-9? What is Delta-8? So many questions! Well, I hope by writing this post and starting to do some reviews of several different CBD products & companies I can help you understand that all a bit more.

Let us first talk about: What is CBD? CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the Cannabid sativa plant, whish is also known as marijuana or help, according to the US National Library of Medicine.

It’s a naturally occurring substance that’s used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm. Unlike its cousin, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the major active ingredient in marijuana, CBD is not psychoactive.

So you’re saying CBD won’t get me high?

Nope. The cannabis plant is made up of two main players: CBD and THC. “CBD is the non-psychoactive portion of the plant, so what that means is you won’t have any effects like euphoria,” says Junella Chin, DO, an osteopathic physician and a medical cannabis expert for cannabisMD. “You won’t feel sedated or altered in any way.”

HOWEVER:

There are two possible exceptions to this. The first is that some people, for unknown reasons, just react differently to CBD. According to Dr. Chin, about 5% of people say they feel altered after taking CBD. “Usually they’re the same people who have side effects from Advil or Tylenol,” she says. You never know how your body will react to any new supplement, so when taking CBD for the first time, do so safely under supervision.

There are several different ways for someone to use CBD. One of the most common usages is CBD oil. Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a product that’s derived from cannabis. It’s a type of cannabinoid, which are the chemicals naturally found in marijuana plants. Even though it comes from marijuana plants, CBD doesn’t create a “high” effect or any form of intoxication — that’s caused by another cannabinoid, known as THC. [Sorry for repeating some of the information, but sometimes that is the best way to get through to people.] So CBD oil comes from Cannabis, but can it also come from Hemp? There are two classifications for the cannabis plant that produces CBD: hemp and marijuana

Hemp-derived CBD is sourced from industrial hemp plants, which are grown primarily for their fiber and seeds. Hemp plants tend to differ from marijuana plants in appearance; they are often skinny and scarce in foliage. Hemp is also differentiated from marijuana by its levels of THC, the cannabinoid that possesses intoxicating properties. Under U.S. law a hemp plant must contain no more than 0.3% THC.

Marijuana-derived CBD is extracted from marijuana plants that have thick, lush foliage and flowers that are generally grown and consumed for their intoxicating properties. The U.S. government defines marijuana plants as those which contain more than 0.3% THC. While most marijuana plants contain THC as the predominant cannabinoid, there are several strains of marijuana that are rich in CBD.

That being said, whether CBD is extracted from hemp or marijuana, it remains identical on a molecular level. These can be mixed into creams or gels. They can be put into capsules and taken orally, or rubbed on your skin. The multiple sclerosis drug nabiximols is sprayed as a liquid into your mouth. How CBD should be used depends largely on what it’s being used for.

Still a bit confused? If you are that is perfectly okay! The main take away from deciding what is legal and what is not, is anything under .3% TCH- Anything under that amount is Industrial Hemp, no mater if it comes from “Hemp” or “Cannabis”.

What are some other ways to use CBD other than oils, creams? Well you have Dabs, Flower, Keif, Shatter, Edibles, Moonrock & more. Think of it this way, if you can find a version of it in its Weed Form there is a CBD counter part to it. Each one affects people differently, and the best advice one can give, is this: Try out several and see what works for you, if you still have some reservations about how it will work on you or how it will effect your body/other medications you may take, PLEASE consult a doctor for that information.

If you are still wondering what some of the terms mean, that is okay too. We are here to help walk you through this, together, we can all take a journey into a anxiety & pain free if not pain limited existence together.

So how exactly are we going to walk on this journey with you? We have created a facebook page & group to help you and us along the way. Check out our page and the quick description down below.

Welcome to LunaOwl CBD Apothecary, we research and find the best CBD out there so you don’t have too. All products that are found here will have CBD [mainly], but there may be some reviewed that do have Delta 8 or CBG in them.

We try products of all different types- From the tincture to the flower & everything in between. There are two of us, we are a husband & wife team. I [Jess] your main reviewer for chronic pain & Michael your main reviewer for Anxiety. We both in our younger years used Weed/Pot/Marijuana for many different reasons, but it was not until we both made a conscious and very serious decision to quit smoking that I had the idea to replace it with CBD/Hemp Flower. So we have quit an addictive substance & traded it in for a nonaddictive one that takes charge of the things we used to smoke for. Through this Michael & I have found a renewed sense of love & enjoyment for Weed’s friendly and less in your face other half. This is what led us to create the page & group on facebook, we want to share our knowledge & experiences with those who may need it down the road.
